The Spatial Data Infrastructure should be understood as a networked system, to which travez of spatial information available through the interoperability of its nodes. These can be defined as the servers housed in public and / or businesses that meet a set of interoperability requirements to be part of that network, so are the mainstay of Spatial Data Infrastructures and therefore can not speak of an IDE if not as much with several nodes interconnected. The greater the number of interconnected nodes greater robustness and maturity presents the network.

There is also to differentiate the term Geoportal itself Spatial Data Infrastructure and Node. A Geoportal is only a set of web pages that allow you to access the services inteorperables, one or many nodes may be different geoportals intra Infrastructure, although of course there will be a primary portal to allow unified access to all spatial information and even derives a thematic geoportals
