Toponymic Inventory of Settlements in the Community of Andalusia. Ítaca
The Toponymic Inventory of Settlements of the Community of Andalusia (ITACA) is a project in progress that requires the participation of the town councils and provincial councils to validate the delimitation of settlements and standardise their names. To this end, a web viewer has been set up which, with the help of the most recent orthophoto and a series of tables and forms, allows the discrepancies detected between different sources to be resolved.
The validated names will form part of the Geographical Nomenclature of Andalusia and the National Geographical Nomenclature, made up of the georeferenced names that must be used in official cartography.

El IECA tiene, entre sus funciones, el inventario, normalización y difusión de la toponimia de Andalucía, que ejecuta a través del Nomenclátor Geográfico de Andalucía (NGA), consultable mediante servicios web. El NGA es un registro dinámico que tiene como objetivo servir de referencia de la toponimia de la Comunidad Autónoma y nutrir, tanto a la cartografía básica y derivada, como a la Infraestructura de Datos Espaciales de Andalucía (IDEAndalucía) y otras aplicaciones del Sistema Estadístico y Cartográfico de Andalucía (SECA), entre ellas el Callejero Digital Unificado de Andalucía (CDAU), la Base Cartográfica de Andalucía (BCA) y Datos Especiales de Referencia (DERA). Con objeto de actualizar los asentamientos urbanos, se ha iniciado el Inventario Toponímico de Asentamientos de la Comunidad Andaluza (ITACA), para el que se ha requerido la imprescindible validación técnica e institucional de los Ayuntamientos.

Para facilitar la participación de los técnicos municipales en la verificación toponímica por vía telemática, se ha creado un visor cartográfico acompañado de tres tablas-formulario, cuya dirección junto con una guía y el procedimiento de validación se envía al Ayuntamiento.

El Ayuntamiento nombra un técnico que realiza un estudio, verificando los topónimos propuestos por el IECA o, en su caso, proponiendo un nombre nuevo, resolviendo las dudas y contradicciones entre fuentes, y añadiendo nuevos asentamientos, en caso de omisión.

Una vez culminada satisfactoriamente la fase de colaboración y validación técnica, se genera un documento que contiene una relación alfanumérica de los asentamientos y una serie de ortofotografías sobre las que se han delimitado los asentamientos del municipio.

En el IECA la información aprobada es publicada en el NGA y DERA así como en el servicio interoperable WMS ITACA para su puesta a disposición al resto de productos del IECA (BCA, CDAU...), del SECA o del Sistema Cartográfico Nacional (Nomenclátor Geográfico Básico de España, IG Referencia de Población, etc.
